Traveler – Chapter 9

I left, and went to the demon realm, and I didn’t realize it right then, but it was three weeks later than I intended. Gloating will do that to a person I guess, well, aside from that, I looked around and everyone was rushing around getting things done. I didn’t warp to the king’s throne for once, and instead I went to the castle town instead. I had come here several times to just look around when I wanted to step back from the annoyances that are politics, and I wanted to get a sheath for my weapon since carrying it around all the time in my hands was quite a hassle.

I digress, while wondering what was going on, I decided to stroll into the king’s castle to figure out what was happening. I would have warped there, but I decided to take my time with this one. I realize now that I should have just asked the citizens, but I, at the time figured that I was the big kid in the playground and shouldn’t bother the other people. They had jobs and things of the like, and I don’t think that they’d like to speak to a guy that was armed all the time.

I digress, I walked up to the castle and the guards stopped me, saying that I couldn’t go in. amused at this, I explained the situation, and that I was wanting to see the king. They said that they had specific orders to keep me out, and for me to stay away. Slightly annoyed, I figured that they didn’t know what I could do, so I just warped right by them and continued walking. They must have been dumbfounded, but then they began to chase after me telling me to halt. Done with this farce, I just looked at them, smirked, and then I warped to the throne room.

I appeared in the throne room, and was about to start ranting off to the king about his guards, but something stopped me from moving forward. it was strange, I felt it, and a smooth cylinder was surrounding me. This is when I decided to look down to find a dull, not glowing magic circle. I personally thought it was odd, since they usually glowed when they were activated, or at least, that was the case in every fantasy novel that I had read. I digress, I was confused about the entire situation, and figured that I would just warp out and figure out what was going on.

This is where I was shocked. I couldn’t get out of the circle no matter what I attempted. Was I not powerful enough? Confused at the situation, I figured that I should just sit and play along with the situation.

after about an hour, I got bored of waiting, and began to play around with my weapon. I pulled it out of the sheath on my back and transformed it from a sword, into a throwing knife. I figured that I should at least practice throwing rather than just sitting there like a bum. I threw it for the first time, taking aim at a mask that was at the wall, figuring that I should at least get the form down first so I can gradually train up the other aspects of it, such as the accuracy and the hold on the knife that I wasn’t sure about. after a few attempts, I gave up on it since the room to do this was only about three feet in diameter. After calling it back, I changed the weapon from a knife to a spear.

At this moment, I started thinking back to my old life that I used to have, and I realized something.

“I haven’t given you a name yet have I?” I said, talking to my spear.

In the past, I named just about everything that I had been using for quite awhile. Heck, my old gaming computer was named Lucille after my favorite character in my favorite book. The downside is that the name had to fit it just perfectly, which gave me more headaches than it was probably worth. I hadn’t named things that I used once and left, nor had I named things that I used every so often, such as a cutting board and things of the like, but I did name the things that had daily use for me.

Thinking about what I should do about that little problem, I began to scroll through my brain to think of something that would fit it. I thought of different mythological weapons that had a name, and figured that I would stray away from those since I thought that mine was special.

I sat for an actual hour thinking of what it should be named, but I kept drawing up duds. None of them fit the weapon, and it just didn’t feel right. At this, I gave up and decided to just let the topic rest for now and just think about it as I go along my journey rather than to fuss about it right now and struggle with it for any longer.

Thankfully, at this time, the king walked into the throne room with a bunch of mages with a terrible smirk on his face. I mean, seriously, it looked like he had pulled his mouth off, bent his mouth in the middle and stuck it back on. Of course, pushing this thought away, I stood up, and dusted off my pants, because I figured that something was about to happen.

“Well, well, well. It looks like you’ve gotten caught in the trap that we set up for you.” the king said, looking like he was on the top of the world.

I rose my eyebrow, and replied, “well, at least I don’t have broccoli stuck in my teeth”

he did, and it was really distracting. Like, the people here on this plane of existence had some of the most perfect, and whitest teeth that I had seen. It was almost eerie how perfect they were, as they weren’t crooked by even a margin. They were so flawless, that they caused me to use improper grammar to describe them.

At this, the king freaked out a bit and began to frantically scrub his teeth, with his composure completely broken. Of course, once the king was informed of this, every other person began to fiddle around with their teeth, bringing out pocket mirrors to check and see if they had anything in/on their teeth. Seeing this broke the tension that was in the situation for me, and so I just stabbed my spear into the stone beneath me and leaned on it, waiting for the situation to finish unfolding.

After a good ten minutes of everyone triple checking their teeth, they finally got back to the situation at hand.

“ahem~ Where was I?” the king pondered for a moment.

“You were explaining the trap, Your Majesty.” spoke one of the cronies beside him.

“Ah yes. Thank you Hen. The trap. So, as you can see, you fell right into our trap. we’ve analyzed where you appeared, and so we placed a magic circle to trap you and to slowly drain the magical energy from you so we can get rid of you just as we did to those heroes that you so kindly delivered to us.”

At this, I was shocked. “But the evil king, and the good queen…” I shouted out questioningly.

At this, the king replied, “all things in due course. The queen was a half demon, and so she was on our side in the war. she hated humans, as do we. Unfortunately, the king saw through this, and had to put the queen and her daughter into jail to try to figure out our plots.”

“Why would you do this?” I asked, baffled at this entire situation.

The king began to laugh along with all of the magicians.

after a good minute of laughing, the king responded with, “The answer is simple. The humans have disgusting teeth. They’re all yellow and horrifying. Do you know how much it hurt me to speak with you or those heroes because of them?”

For the second time today, I was completely baffled by what I was just told.

“So, let me get this straight. you are committing genocide, just because their teeth aren’t perfect?” I asked cynically.

“yes.” the king replied.

I was at a loss for words, I couldn’t understand how something like this could happen.

sorry about the late release
